When Justin Hyte shoots me an email inviting me to a photo/video shoot he's doing, I don't even have to think about going, I'm already there. The best part is that in that invitation, I became aware of a very glamourific band. That band being, Semi Precious Weapons.
This band is B A D ... I mean that in the 80's sense. Sometimes you just want a band to be dirty, glammed up, trashy and haute. You wanna leave all hot and bothered and wanting more. That's what you'll get when you go to a SWP show. You really don't know whether you love 'em or hate 'em, you just can't stop watching them. What's great about this band is that they don't give a damn, they do what they do and it is in your face without apologies. Their music will cause you to throw your bottle at the wall, tongue the person in front of you, and then punch the one behind you. Justin Tranter's statuesque figure is sure to cause a stir and he defnitely puts on on the adrogyny to the nth level. Pretty fun stuff.
Wow, you guys are amazing performers! How do you feel the performance of a band lends itself to the actual music? What do you enjoy most about a live show?Well thanks baby! We write songs to perform them, that's the whole point of our music. Our favorite part of the live show is the whole thing. The only think we don't like is sound check, so we don't do it.
How did SPW come to be?
It had already started when we got there.
What are your feelings on the New York music scene at this time?
Well there is no scene, so we can't really have feelings. Haha!
Craziest fan you’ve ever encountered?
There is no way to answer this question in a specific way without hurting someone's feelings. We love our fans, and the crazier the better!
You guys have an incredible sense of style, where does it come from?
The garage glam constitution written by Tommy and Roy Couture of Alter in Brooklyn.
Do you see yourself as David Bowie Glam or as Guns and Roses Fierce? What do you feel SPW is saying with your music?
Both and Neither. We look good and sound good. So both and neither. We are trying to say to people: love yourself, fuck yourself, have fun, get laid.
You all have pretty sexually charged videos, how do you feel this encapsulates the image of the band?
Rock n Roll is supposed to be rebellion and sexuality. And since we like to think of ourselves as a Rock n Roll band, that's how we do.
What do you feel is missing out of live performances today?
Entertainment and heavy breathing.
