Sara Avery-AngelesHer name was Sara Avery. She epitomized what I thought style should be...circa 1988. Punk as shite and petite, Sara wasn't just edgy but so was everything from her hair to her nails to her footwear. She was fearless and her modern/vintage mix of a style was very natural on her, never contrived. She would just throw a scarf here, a flannel there, a holey tight there and just looked cool. I wanted her closet!

It is no surprise to me that this now mother of four (YES, FOUR) is the proud owner of ReVamped. Sara creates one of kind, vintage-inspired baubles. It is not a shocker Sara's style translates to modern Hollywood and her work is impeccable. It's nice to see an old friend create an inspiration and is able to express what's always been within her into something smashing!

Have you always been into all things vintage and how would you describe your style growing up?
I've always had eclectic taste and been more into what I like and what is timeless vs. a slave to current styles. Always wanting to look different from everyone else, growing up I went from what I call, preppy-prairie-chic in my pre-teens to gothic punk rock in my teens and twenties. I’ve collected vintage clothes and accessories since I was 13.

Where do you find your pieces and what draws you to the ones you choose for your wares?
Sara Avery-Angeles Well, mostly I use broken jewelry from the 1900's to the 1980's and create my own eclectic mix; I’m drawn to glass beads and colors as well as interesting shapes. I’ve collected bits and pieces of vintage jewelry and odds and ends for twenty years so that is my base. I’m obsessed with my collection of celluloid and bakelite from the 1930’s and 40’s so those give me a lot of inspiration.

Who has been your vintage style icon, today and yesterday?
I'm not really drawn to one particular person or style. Fashion designers are exciting to me, the ones who really push the envelope and mix vintage with modern; Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander MQueen, Stella Mcartney...I’ve always loved Madonna and I can appreciate Gwen Stefani and Rachel Zoe—who I feel have an amazing ability to mix it up like I would. Yesterday? Name one—I love them all!

Sara Avery-AngelesWho would you most like to see wearing your pieces?
Everyone! But I think my pieces are more for women who are willing to be a little daring & a little funky.

You've recently had some big news regarding your work...tell us about that.
My brother is a stylist for TV & film. He recently completed a movie called “….And They’re Off” and he used several of my pieces to style the lead actresses. The leap from sporadically selling my jewelry online to suddenly being on the silver screen is pretty exciting!

You have 3 beautiful daughters, do you adorn them in your work?
All of my daughters love jewelry as much as I do and I’ve been dressing them up with vintage since they were born! They usually want to wear everything I make but I have to hide it so I can sell it! I do make them pieces now and then with my vintage findings, charm bracelets and such—they love dressing up and taking fun pictures wearing loads of jewelry.

What has been a vintage look recently you've adored?
I love the revival of the 1940's & Victorian fashion.

What has been your favorite piece and what do you find challenging about your work?
My favorite piece that I recently created is a bracelet (picture attached) I call ‘give me liberty ,or give me death’, created with pieces from early 1900 to the 1940’s that I think has a lot of relevance. I gave it to my sister- in-law. The most challenging is finding time to be a full time Mom to 4 children ages 2-17 and still be creative and energetic about creating pieces. There are not enough hours in the day!!

Do you sell your things outright or do you put them in different stores?
I have tried to work with some stores but giving a percentage of the sales is frustrating. I am actively selling online at Etsy and in the process of creating my own website to showcase my work.

What's your worse habit?
Smoking cigarettes!
