December 19, 2007

Hello All! I just wanted to wish you all a very happy holiday! I will be working on all new features for the coming year. I will be posting articles and Project Runway summaries during the next few weeks. I wanted to open January up with a BANG so you will have to wait until then for a new slew of incredible talents. Due to technical and logistical problems the Anti-Mag/SugarShack showcase has been moved to February. Details will follow and I promise it will be worth the wait. February is the month of love and also the landmark of my birth!

I want everyone to know that this year for me has been full of emotional roller coasters including the loss of my job and the loss of some people in my life. All my love goes out to those who lost someone this year and I'm hoping the next will be full of hope and happiness. What is life without the dark challenges which face us in our weakest moments? We triumph and move on, hopefully.

Lastly...I urge everyone to think about the holiday season as a time of giving....and no, I don't mean that diamond bracelet or X-Box you plan on giving your loved one. I'm talking about real giving. Say, you wanted to give little 'ole me a gift....what could I ask for...hmmm....a new flat screen tv....more iTunes....some chocolates? Whether it's helping out the homeless shelters or giving those size 2 pants that you'll NEVER fit in again or giving to your favorite charity, the point is, you're all capable of giving a little. This holiday I gave a gift of charity to a friend of mine who clued me into this organization. He didn't want anything material and suggested I check them out. So, I did just that, and found that such noble efforts should be commended. I'm hoping to do some fundraising for these people in the near future. So, feel free to check them out and put your money to good use. There's a bagillion good causes out there!
Donate to AIDG.ORG.

Thank you all so much for a wonderful year of support, readership and kind kudos. I only hope to keep exposing some truly remarkable individuals. I look forward to doing much more with this little hobby of mine.

Anti-Mag and SugarShack are teaming together for end of the month showcases to give people an opportunity to mingle with the very artists, musicians and designers that I feature. I'm hoping that with these showcases people will get to meet these amazing individuals who offer their meaningful arts to the world. I'm also getting into featuring some charitable causes as well to try and get people actively involved in making the world go round. What's life if you cannot give a little people! More details to come about the showcases. Check out these events coming up in the New York area. People, if you live out of New York I will advertise your events as well...just send me what you have!

Hello all! I trust everyone is enjoying the holiday season. I've finally finished a few more features for you all. It has been a tough road but I think I'm back into creative zone. Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends out there. Things are moving along here and I'm working on more features as usual. I recently went to the Knitting Factory to see my friends Hero Pattern perform. I also ventured to Galapagos to see The World Famous "BOB" perform with a plethora of beauties. She announced her move to the Bowery Poetry Club across from CBGB's. If you get a chance to check her out please do, she is quite the performer. Last night I attended Envoy art gallery to check out future feature Kind Monitor do an acoustic set and also checked out the art work of Marc Séguin. He does some interesting stuff. I am attending the presentation of New Amsterdames at HERE Arts Center on Monday.

Hot Rod Circuit is about to embark on their last tour. If you have never seen them and are in the tour area, please go check them out. They are one of the best live bands I know. Check out their MySpace for tour dates.

So, lots going on and much to tell. Stay tuned....it is finally cold here in New York and although unwanted I must say the change could do me good.

November 18, 2007

Sunday. Dark. Cold. My stomach hurts. My cat is driving me nuts. I don't want to code tomorrow. How is the rest of the world enjoying their Sunday afternoons? Hopefully with a Bloody Mary and Mimosas. I'm in a writing kind of mood....let's see what I've come up with today. Also, I've begun the Project Runway - Whatchu 'Talkin' 'Bout Tim Gunn section. I'm working on the holiday edition of Anti-Mag, although I'm anti-holiday as well...just call me Lady Grinch. I know, I know, I'm an awful person. Mid-week I will debut some new features.

If anyone would like any announcements for shows and the such to be mentioned in this section, feel free to shoot me an email with all the specifics and flyers. Make sure you get the info to me in time as well. Thanks!

I guess to all those who celebrate Thanxforgiving, have a good one. Hey, we might want to try that, instead of stuffing ourselves, why not give heartily to a charity or take that size 4 you aren't workin' anymore and drop it off to GoodWill. Just a thought because remember when holidays used to be about the spirit of things rather than the balatant consumerism and gluttonous events they've become today? Yes, I know...Debbie Downer.

October 28, 2007

Hej hej hej! That means Hey Hey Hey! in Swedish, I'm told by a very good friend. Today is the first day I got a little chill lying in my bed. Brrr....and so not looking forward to Winter. The weather that is. I am looking forward to the projects I've been working on. Next issue of Anti-Mag is going to be an eruption of artists. I've had a lot of features in the works and since I had to play catch up, you shall benefit from the results. I have to say it will be a lot of my New York peeps and it's only because...well because there are more of us and hell, there are sooooo many talented people. This should be a wakeup call to all those other 49 states out there! So stay tuned because in the week to come I will be featuring these artists:
- Outasight - Hip Hop Entertainer
- Kind Monitor - Budding New York Duo
- Ken Penn - Hottie Capturing Photographer
- Paulette Jemmott-Wiley - Hip Crochet Artist
- Eyeball Skeleton - A Surprising Find
- and many more to come....

NY AdornedOn that note, I would like to let everyone know that the best tattoo shop has extended its location to Brooklyn, NY and with it comes only some of the best tattoo artists in the country. People ask me all the time where to go get their ink and without a blink I tell them NY Adorned. Owner, Lori Levin and her crew recently set up shop in Brooklyn and with it come the likes of Timothy Hoyer, Chris O'Donnell, Stephanie Tamez, Yoni Zilber, and Shinji Horizakura (who specializes in traditional Japanese tebori handpoked tattooing) and many other incredible artists. It will be a more spacious and private custom tattoo shop.

Lori also has her amazing line of jewelry as well as other artists she features in her shop. I know I'm not inked up as some of my friends are, but I can say this: If you want ink that is going to be of the best artistic quality from some of the best artists out there, and you want it done in place that is comfortable, professional, and renowned, then you want it done at NY Adorned. If you want jewelry that is unique and high quality or maybe some quality piercing, then this is your one stop shop. I encourage anyone visiting or living in the New York area to venture to Brooklyn to see what Miss Levin and company have to offer. They are located at:
376 Bedford Ave (between S.5 St and S.4 St, S.Williamsburg Brooklyn) and you can also visit their LES store at: 47 Second Avenue (between 2St. and 3St.). Click Here for More Info!

SugarShackI'm just full of news today. I also want to encourage everyone to go and see SugarShack perform. I promise you will not be sorry as it is a boobtastically fun show. These girls know how to entertain and they do it well. Legs Malone will have you jiggling with laughter as she playfully pontificates and Runaround Sue has the sweetness and charm of a ripe Georgia Peach. If you want to see true burlesque in its rightful form then you have to check them out. SugarShack performs every Wednesday at Niagara in New York Citay! For more info click the pic!

The art on the flier was done by another fabulous burlesque beauty and incredible graphic designer, Bonnie Voyage!

I think that is actually it at this juncture. I hope all are well and prepared for the next season. I'm still unemployed people! Rough times, rough times.
October 25, 2007

My good friends of the New York band What What Where are performing tonight on New Jersey's Monmouth College Radio Station X 88.9 FM at 9pm. You can hear their performance by following this link: http://zorak.monmouth.edu/~wmcx/index.php
If you would like more info on What What Where and their music...well until I do a feature on them...click the pic!

This coming up weekend I'm going to present a slew of new material for you all. I'm working on some huge projects at this time since that is all I have is time...I hate looking for jobs! I mean where is that guy who sees me in midtown and asks me to be in his movie?? I mean c'mon! Kidding. We all know that my star potential is hidden and only brought out when crackers and cheese are present. It is good to know I can confide in my readers during this time, thanks for listening!

October 14, 2007

I am enjoying my Sunday as I hope you are too. I just wanted to let everyone know I'm serious about having some Anti-Mag showcases coming up. This is going to give people the opportunity to reach out to the artists I've featured. I think it's important to emphasize what Anti-Mag is trying to convey in its mission. I'm working on venues and events and should be presenting in the near future.

I'm working on some other great featured artists in the upcoming issues. Erica Weiner, Paulette of Dahlia Soleil, Pora Pora, Kind Monitor, Ray Haddad, and many more will be coming soon. Project Runway is beginning again soon and as always I will be featuring commentary on each episode. I've also written a little summary of New York fashion week, late I know, but better than never. In the meantime, enjoy the current extraordinary people to my left.

On a last note, Hot Rod Circuit has decided to put its gloves away and call it quits. You can only hold out so much against the Fall Out Boys and the Silversteins out there. We commend all those bands who are talentless and manufactured like the slick auto-tuned machines they are. We commend those bands out there who play one style of music and one style only. We commend those bands who have cool haircuts and wear the tightest of jeans. The Underground is a Dying Breed and the new Warrants and Poisons are all the same, they just have cooler clothes and makeup. Wake up people, the underground is back....we're just in our 30's now. Support your local music scene. For Hot Rod's last tour dates check out their MySpace page.

October 4, 2007

On October 14th, the band Eisley, who if you don't know about you should check out, is releasing Combinations which will mark their Sophomore album. I cannot say enough about this band that I love, but I will say that when you hear them play it's angelic, it is dark, it is ethereal. I will never get an interview with them so I just wanted to promote them in my own way. Please check it out and I'm pretty sure you'll get chills when you hear them play. They are currently on tour aand if you want more info just click the image below.

Welcome back me! Sorry I've been gone so long but I had a lot to do! I'm gad to present to you some new features and all week I will be posting new stuff for your viewing pleasure. So, what have I been up to is mostly dealing with a newly diagnosed diabetic cat, dealing with a commute to Long Island for work, a husband who is currently touring Australia, and checking out a lot of new music and potential features for Anti-Mag. Oh, and on top of this I did some traveling to the West Coast and I just have to tell my little brother congratulations on getting married. I wish for them all the best!

Ok, enough bull, check out the new features and postings. Hope everyone is happy and well and I'm sorry I've been away for so long, but I needed to breathe for a second.

August 23, 2007

So I'm here at my dismal workplace and wondering if the sun will ever appear again or perhaps tomorrow it will sleet incessantly. I wanted to give you all a brief update on the who's, what's and Where's of Anti-Mag recently. I will be out of town a bit in the next couple of weeks. I am taking my trusty lap top in case I feel like vacating the sun and beach to write a little somethin' somethin'....hardly...well you never know! There's a few days left for The Fringe in New York. I highly advise anyone who is looking for some edgy and indie theater to take in one of these performances. I personally recommend "Bombs in Your Mouth" as well as the hilariously engaging "Sodomy and Pedicures". They both are well written and performed. For more information on times and show descriptions feel free to visit their website by clicking the pic.

Also, I'm working on some new interviews with some interesting new music and art to feature. I also will be writing about my experience at the Hip-Hop Theater in New York where I attended THE WALLS BELONG TO US, an art benefit for Alan Ket’s legal defense. He's a known grafitti artists for those of you unaware. I met some very cool people there. I just love how New York is so communal. I will also have a style update for the next season for all you boys and girls....oooo, I'm sure you can't wait for that! What will you wear, what will you wear.

Last but not least, I would like to say, I wish Michael Vick would endure the same senseless torture upon himself as he inflicted or condoned on those dogs. It enrages me that people like this roam free and can call themselves human beings. Disgusting. I promise to be back soon and will hopefully be able to put something up for you all to read in the next couple of weeks. My "real" job is killing me and I may just have to throw it all to the wind and say screw it....time to do something worth doing. I suggest you do the same

July 22, 2007

Good Sunday, Peeps! Just wanted to let everyone know I have some new postings. I'm trying to write more articles instead of just doing features. I can be versatile! Ha! Once again I will put this out there for anyone who would like to freelance write some things feel free to contact me. I don't get paid and neither will you, but you will have the rewarding satisfaction of knowing your inside voice has been brough to the public eye.

I suppose that is all for now. I will be writing a lot more these days as I'm trying to hone myself as a legit writer. It's actually because I'm bored to death at this moment in time and am attempting to do something worthy with my life! I do hope you and yours are well.

July 18, 2007
Hello all...so I have merch that isn't available yet because $7.50 a freakin' shirt is nuts for me right now so I'm working out a way to get it out to you all. Thanks for the patience.

I have written some notables...they may be boring to you. I've lost my head recently with trying to find a new job, getting reasonable merch, and dealing with the fact that my old man will be away on Warped for the next month and a half! If you are going to Warped, I beg of you to check out Hot Rod's set. I will be going to some of the dates and will give all a full report of my findings...as for the line-up this year I do not expect to find much except for same-style vocals, naked smelly people, girls trying to jump rock star wannabees, and the usual wear and tear of the summer's "Band Camp".

I have some events I went to recently that will be talked about as well. Time is a bitch. I have been in sour spirits obviously, but will snap out of it sometime soon. Check out my opinion page for my rantings on what's going on in my head! My friends Jupiter Deluxe are playing a show. Go see them cause they are fun!

Brothers and sisters,
It's late July. High season for the dog days, they call it. It's hot, it's humid, you're hiding next to your window unit, and dammit if you haven't seen that re-run of Dallas three times already. We're here to help.

Follow these simple instructions, and you'll feel much better:

1. Clear all plans for Friday, July 27th.

2. Relax. Perhaps drink an iced tea, or a lemonade, or maybe an Arnold Palmer, which is a combination of the two.

3. Call all your friends and tell them about steps one and two, and then prepare for the night of the show when you will:

4. Peel yourself off your couch, hail the closest handsome cab, and head straight for the cool, dry confines of Club Midway on Avenue B. There you will find us, The Jupiter Deluxe. We've been hired to rock, and we mean business. Satisfaction guaranteed.

5. Try to protect yourself from flying debris as we proceed to rock your face off.

6. Buy one (or all) of us a drink. (Optional).

Friday, July 27th. Club Midway
7PM: Crabs are Scavengers
8PM: Get Help
9PM: The Jupiter Deluxe
10PM : Comandante Zero

25 Ave. B btwn 2nd and 3rd streets

Awwww, Sukay! What's up everyone! This month is kinda blah for me as my features I had lined up decided to bail...AGAIN. I do have the incredible Army of Me and my un-interview with Shiny Toy Guns. I know a lot of people will get up in arms about my attitude towards them but honestly people bring this negativity to themselves. I do have some fun writings in my Steez section. C'mon you wanna know what the ladies should and should not wear for Spring/Summer 2007! Guys, I promise to get you next time. It has finally started getting a bit toasty here in NYC and I ain't complaining because I HATED winter this year. It was FOREVA!

I'm looking for some freelance writers. Anyone want to showcase your writing style, feel free to contact moi. It's an opportunity to display your body of work and it's free advertisement for yourself as a writer. So, think about it. Lord knows, my readers are probably sick of my writing style. Also, if you would like me to post your event on my news page, feel free to send me your art and details and I will let the small world I live in know.

Click on the thumbnails for more details.

Heylo all...just wanted to give you an update on what's up with Anti-Mag. I've got some new features for next month and I'm excited about getting those up. We finally have Spring here in New York and I can honestly say I have bad Spring Fever! My allergies have run amok though! I love the smell of the seasons changing. It's been so cold and icky here I am happy to say I can go outside again. I'm hoping to attend some new fabulous events this summer as well as taking in some great music with The Bamboozle, Warped and whatever festival is kind enough to give me a press pass.

It's a time for new beginnings and Anti-Mag will do it's best to start the journey with you. If anyone wants to contribute to the summer of fun whether it's a tour diary or a vignette, please feel free to contact me!

Please support United in Fashion. I went last year and gained two features Brian Rawson and Shaun Topper. It's really a fun and great event.
