You may have seen them on members of Reliant K, Unwritten Law, and Hot Rod Circuit. You may have seen them adorn the faces of such sports figures as Hank Balock from the Texas Rangers and members of the San Diego Padres. Maybe you've even seen them on the faces of skaters from teams like Zero, Sk8Marfia and Black Label. I'm talking about the very cool eyewear being created by Javier Meneses and Brad Bohensky. The dynamic duo from San Diego are outfitting some very important people. This very small team of nine are working real hard to create great eyewear for the rocker, for the sportster, for the extremist and more importantly for YOU.

Javier began working for a sunglass company in San Diego circa 1999 and Brad joined him working as an inside sales rep. They delved into all aspects of the company including creative solutions, marketing, and coming up with new designs for the company. The company was soon bought taking Javier and Brad on odd job assignments until they decided to give the sunglass realm their own personal touch. In 2002 they created Evode Eyewear. "We felt that most of the sunglass companies didn't know how to market to the music/skateboarding prospect very well. Since we grew up in San Diego's local music and skateboarding scene, we feel like we created a company that reflects what's going on in those scenes."

I asked the guys where their namesake came from and they explained it came out of a freestyle rap game they were playing in the car on the way to meeting their manufacturer. Seeing at how good it not only sounded but how it looked in print, they decided to go with the name Evode. They wanted to create something that really didn't have a definition or that would be associated with anything in particular. Seems Javier and Brad have a following and great support from the many bands they adorn with their glasses. "The people we have given glasses to wear them because they like them not 'cause we have a deal with them."

Being that music is a major influence for these guys, I asked them what they were currently listening to. They responded with, "The Transit War, Spell Toronto, and Underminded...Parkside View was a band we were fortunate to see before they broke up and really liked. The Muse is great as well, the new Alkaline Trio, and the new Coheed is amazing. Man this is a tough question 'cause we can really just go on and on about what bands we like." Oh, I know Javier, I know. I like asking that question because you never know what you're going to get. I had no idea who The Transit War was and now that I've listened to them I like 'em. That's the idea right? So if you are ever in the San Diego area, the guys have a few shops there and you can also check out their products at www.evodeeyewear.com . They also tour with a lot of bands they support so you can possibly find them in your city!
