Missed 2007? Go Back in Time
May 26, 2008
It's Memorial Day! It's nice out! I'm inside. What's wrong with this picture? I have work to do, what can I say. I have a little bit of updated material. Miss Sue wrote a very thought provoking review of Austin McCormick's, "Judgement of Paris". What better perspective than that of a Burlesque performer?
I would like to welcome Daniela Chunga as Anti-Mag's newest member. She will be giving her all to attend some festivals and shows this summer and give us some live reviews. No, we will not be giving reviews of records as you all know, I don't do that sort of thing. I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather we are finally having here in New York. I have sent out a slew of new interviews with hopefully some response so that I may expose more interesting artists. I've also added an events page so that you may see what's going on in your locale. If you don't send me info I can't very well post. It does not have to be New York based. I am trying to update the site as much as possible and since I am without work yet again I'm hoping to keep things flowing.

Hi All...this is a very quick update on what's up. First off check out the Republic of Letter's feature, I haven't put up it in the features section yet because....I have NO laptop for three days! Yes, this is going to be very difficult and withdrawal may be eminent. In the mean time I will try and get non-graphic articles up and going. I'm still waiting on some return interviews but this month it is pulling teeth to get. I do have other interests though and will be featuring more talented people. I want to let you guys know again...here in NYC, myself and my new Social Coordinator, Susan Gardner are hosting a Happy Hour every 1st Thursday in LES at Nurse Bettie. Nurse Bettie is a very cute bar with gorgeous pinup paintings. The whole purpose in doing this is to gather people together and hope that meeting and greeting will motivate and create a stimulus for new projects. We know you can do it on the computer, but it's much more fun if there are actual beings in the room. Let's not forget the generous Happy Hour specials of $3 Draughts, $4 Wells, and $6 Special Martini. It's not just for us people, it's for everyone. So, feel free to come out and hang out and talk about the way of the world or whatever! Next month we will be featuring DJ Jay. I'm sure it will be interesting.
In other news...I recently went to see Working Man's Clothes production of "37 Stones!", which was very funny and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I cannot express how much I love this production company because they are putting out some really great work. I know when I go to see a WMC show it's going to be edgy and funny and witty. I am hardly ever disappointed with their talent. So, as I gloat away:
Working Man's Clothes is now accepting submissions of short scripts 10-15 min in length for The 3rd Annual New York City Binge Festival.
Also accepting ideas and acts of performance art, burlesque, comedy, music, film, or other mediums. Scripts that embrace characters engaged in excessive or compulsive behavior highly encouraged! This year's BINGE OLYMPIAD corresponds with the summer olympics so we are encouraging that angle as well.
Email to colew@workingmansclothes.com by June 1st if interested in sending a script or idea or want to be involved as an act.
Another event I would like every to be aware of is SugarShack's Shaken and Stirred Burlesque on Wednesdays at Niagra.
Check out Miss Legs Malone's commentary on sexay art in Time Out New York!
I also have a short notice here. My very talented friend Eric Collins is showing his works tonight at the School of Visual Arts. Click the pic for more info.

I think this is all I have to report up to this point. I'm trying to get back in the game and thank everyone for their input. So much more to come....

Hello All:
My good friend Mike Poorman had a cancellation in mid-April that he wants to fill. If you are interested in recording at the studio (Strangeways) between April 15 and April 30th, he is offering a huge discount day rate (10 hr. block) for anyone that books time. Hit him up if you're interested.
Thanks.
You can contact him through his MYSPACE or go to here:
Much Loves, Lady D
PS if you are looking for a good studio in general you should hit Mike up...

Hey all...hope everyone is alive, well and happy. I hate unscripted television pretending to be "reality". Thought I'd vent on that one. Anti-Mag is working on the new features party which will be graffiti and urban art themed. All I can say is...art, breakin' and hot DJing...it's in a cloud...over my head...working itself into reality, slowly...
I have some features coming up. I still have some exciting interviews out. Who knows if I will get them back, but if I do, man you guys will be stoked!
I went and saw my old Richmond friends, Bio Ritmo last night at Zebulon. White people, if you can't dance and you're drunk, stay off the dance floor. I also have been checking out Rose Live Music on Thursdays and I like the Brooklyn Freestyle Sessions with Möbius Collective. If you like good funk, hiphop, reggae and soul...this is the place to be.
I don't have much else to report...OH, WAIT! If you are in New York, you must check this out:
Check out some really great art for a really great cause. More to come...

I was going to make a mention this on my ART section but I think it deserves front coverage. First off I want to say that "artists" which do things of this nature are appalling. This is not ART. I don't care how in your little dillusioned head you think you can justify this as art, it just isn't. It's inhumane and disgusting.
My friend Alex Aldama of the store Fuego 718 in Wiliamsburg wrote me this:
In 2007, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, a supposed artist, captured an abandoned dog from the street, tied him with a short cord to the wall in an art gallery and left him there to slowly die of hunger and thirst.
For a few days, not only was that "artist" also all the cruel gallery visitors viewed the agony of the poor animal until finally the dog died of starvation after having experienced so much pain!
And that's not all, now the Honduras Biennale Centro de Arte, after deciding that was art, invited Guillermo Vargas Habacuc to repeat this cruel action for the 2008 Biennale. HELP TO STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please sign the petition: STOP IT
Feel free to Google this to see the actual exhibit.

Looking for something to do on St. Pat's day? What is more awesome than Guinness and the divine ladies of Sugar Shack Burlesque? I mean, if I walked in a bar and saw this, I think I indeed would have the luck of the Irish. So, go get your Paddy on and enjoy the show!
Well after all the anticpation and craziness that went into the first Anti-Mag Features Party, it finally arrived last night. I am happy at the turnout and it was nice to see surprising cameos. Albert Cadabra, RunAround Sue, and Legs Malone did an incredible job at hosting as well as providing some quality entertainment. I had no idea what went into doing one of these things so I am happy that I had people who knew what they were doing! I'm hoping in my growing pains that I have smoother and bigger events to come for the magazine. All I want is to give people a chance to see and meet talented individuals.
I have some people to thank besides the ladies of SugarShack and Albert. First off thanks to my husband and bro-in-law whom so diligently helped the band as well as me prepping for the event. A huge thank you to Joel Decatur for providing the cool goody bag design! Thanks to Jayme J for providing me with a beautiful hat she made for the evening as well as her makeup magic. Thanks to Colette Lee and her team of hair and makeup mistresses - you guys are amazing. A huge thank you to the artists who, despite the rough space made it work, and showed their pieces - Matt Siren, Esther Sanchez, and Dave Moore. Thanks to my beautiful friends who were there to cheer me on and support my efforts. I love you all!
So, in my stress I totally forgot to put the track listings for the CD comps and I do apologize, but in all actuality it was so you had to come to the site! So, go HERE for them.
This week new features will be put up now that I can focus back on the magazine...sorry for the delay.

Well well well....you won't believe the month I've had! So, it's official..I'm doing a party! Along with the ladies of Sugar Shack Burlesque, Anti-Mag will be introduced to the public. We will presenting the vocal stylings of Miss Shira, artwork by Dave Moore, Esther Sanchez and Matt Siren and of course enticing performances by Sugar Shack! I have some new features on their way...yes, I promise. I was going to do a review of Fashion Week here in NY, but have opted to scrap it and instead talk about the Oscar fashions. I will however say that Carmen Marc Valvo's collection was absolutely DIVINE! Take a look here. I'm working as fast as I can to bring more to you guys...in the meantime, come to the event and hang out with us...we promise it will be FUN!

Hola my peoples....Well, I know it's been a bit and I'm working on those features I've been telling you about. I have wonderful news! On March 13th Sugar Shack Burlesque and Anti-Mag will host a most fabulous event. This is a save the date for you all. We will have a flyer soon from Mr. Matt Siren and it will provide you with everything you need to know about our event. I'm very excited!
Next up, I saw some incredible music at Rose in Wiliamsburg. I have to say that the magic of Mr. Balla Kouyate made for a spectacular birthday. I met the very gifted Toussaint Yeshua as well as an incredible guitarist by the name of Raja Kassis. The evening was full of dancing and fun and I thank the Rose for providing my friends and I with such a great night. I'm telling you all to check these individuals out because these are real musicians with incredible talent. Yes, they will make you shake your booty. Oh and speaking of booty shakin'...I met the most sweet and charming DJ Jesse Mann who spins some sick music. So, for all you New Yorkers check these peeps out at Rose on Monday nights and at Bembé on Sunday nights. If you are not a New Yorker and looking for something fun to do...order a Red Stripe and enjoy.
On that note...I suggest you check this out:

Ok, so my life is almost in order and there will be more features soon. I appreciate your patience and I do hope all is well with you.

Bonjour! So, I'm learning French...deal with it...it's only 1/3 of my heritage but I take it seriously...I keep thinking how this is so a mistake since Spanish is my first language and I speak it muy malo! For all those wondering, I'm in the midst of moving apartments and so the site has been put on hold for a teensy little bit. I do have some big 'ol news though and I can't wait to share. You will have to wait until mid week though as I'm MOVING and I know that most of you can relate to the stress and pain of transferring residences. I thank you for your patience and love you all! See you soon! February 1, 2008
Happy February people! I love February. It is the month of my existence and it is the month of love and it is the month that the little groundhog comes out and destroys the coming of Spring for me. 2008 has been oh so good thus far including a new job! Finally, some income. I am also looking forward to presenting new features for you like the ones to my left here. I'm working on more than I can handle at this point but I'm happy to have so many incredible people to feature!
I hate football - go GiANTS! We may win, I watch for the commercials. Why is Sherri Shepherd on the View. I don't watch the show, but it seems that she is always saying some dumb shit. Fashion Week begins this week in New York and although I would love to stand in line to see some boring American fashions, I've decided to just recap as usual. Besides, I'm not important enough nor does my style scream fashionista..it's like Heidi says, "One day you are in, the next you are out!" Must we hear that every episode? Moving on...
Tonight marks the reception of artist, Michael Alan. If you have a chance go see somegreat art at his Draw-a-Thing exhibit. Click the pic for full details.
I would tell you guys of some events happening elsewhere but noone really clues me in because they think this is just a New York magazine....well it's not! In fact next week, you just wait because Anti-Mag is going international once again with a feature on rapper RedEye, he's from FRANCE...ooolala! I'm doing the interview in both languages...don't ask...it's MAGiC! I also saw this incredible band a few weeks ago by the name of Ungdomskulen from Norway and will be featuring them soon as well because they were very konge. I am also featuring The Elegant Elephant because every family should have kick ass photos and not some Walmart shit. Hmm...let's see, OH, I have a special surprise comedian I'm featuring whom I'm totally stoked about....all I have to say is they are a real BETCH! Jewelry dazzler, Angelique Boutique as well as the stylish Jayme J will also be making an appearance. So, see I have been up to no good! In the meantime enjoy the current features. I hope 2008 is going well for everyone!

Happy New Year!
Heyloooooo everyone and a happy New Year to you! Another year has come and gone and of course I have my goals I plan on achieving this year. This year is the year of the Rat. Do you know what this means???
A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find.
I hope this means my time of unemployment hell has ended! We can only hope. I have kissed the wrath of 2007 goodbye and with this I have made a promise to myself that things will get better and I must pursue the things I have set out to do. I only wish for everyone a happy, hopeful and prosperous new year as we set things in motions politically, socially and environmentally. Remember, we are starting a revolution here, so don't muck it up! Let's get a little messy, a little angrier, a little more passionate, more giving, and hell, let's just shake it up a bit. We're writing history here and I doubt we want to be remembered as the era that couldn't. Ok, enough of all that. As you can see, I have yet some more notable persons for your reading pleasure. They are worthy of your support, so enjoy!
