Shiny Toy Guns are a band. They are from the Los Angeles area. They play electronic/dance/rock music. You can hear their single "LeDisko" on Top Model. This is an interview I sent them. They responded with this. I listened to their first full length "We Are Pilots". I'm a big fan of electronic music especially growing up with New Order, Depeche Mode, and Clan of Xymox. I enjoy dancing to this type of music and today I'm not exposed to it as much as I used to be so when I heard STG I was excited to see what this band had to offer. Apparently they are bigger than I knew. I had a friend recommend them to me, other than this I had never heard of them. "We Are Pilots" is chockfull of great dance singles. It definitely takes from the Alternative '80s genre and that I love. The instrumentation is good and Carah and Chad can sing. They want to stay mysterious. It seems all the electronic bands I've interviewed want to leave as much to the imagination as possible. They are glossy, well produced, mass fanned and dedicated musicians but don't really want you to know much more than this. Notice I don't have any other electronic bands on here....I have interviewed a number of them. So, Ladies and Gents here is Shiny Toy Guns and their in-depth interview. (if you haven't caught on, this is sarcasm) You guys have been touring non stop since '05 have you guys settled anywhere yet? Settle? We don't really settle anywhere. We tour globally so really its more like instead of saying we are from "Los Angeles" or "Oklahoma" we just simply say we are from America. (wow, they are huge!) With the success of your single "LeDisko" and the signing to Universal, do you feel your attitude has changed towards the industry? The Recording industry? I don't really have an attitude towards them, I just impatiently try to work together with everyone so that we can more easily reach the goals that we have as a band. You guys have really used technology to benefit your careers, is this a constant these days or are you finding it harder to keep in touch with your fan base? Its not that difficult, it just takes time. If I was married, it would take time to give my wife what she deserved. Right now I am married to about half a million people so its a bit difficult but we somehow manage the best we can. What's it like playing in a band which promotes dancing, electronic music, and rock while the mainstream is a collective of rock indie boy groups? Its amazing. (wow, such an in-depth answer) Who have you enjoyed touring with and who do you most want to tour with? We love Mutemath. And Under The Influence of Giants. We had an amazing time with Fall Out Boy as well. But forever and ever, we want to tour with Muse. Do you guys make a habit of creating a persona on stage? Is it a part of putting an identity on your music? Our stage persona is a direct reflection of who we are as individuals. We are the same in the alley, at the bar, and at the merch table as we are behind our instruments. (so basically I'm asking if you wear the makeup 24-7, apparently so) What bands today are influencing you? What band of yesteryear influence you? The British New Rave scene is an exciting thing we are lightly linked too and truly enjoying right now. Bands like the Klaxons are amazing. Also an Aussie band called Van She is amazing as well. Older things that have always been a part of us are founding fathers like Pink Floyd...like Peter Gabriel. What do you find most challenging in writing music? Finding time. (once again, so in-depth) Chad has said that he wants to make music that moves people, do you feel you are accomplishing that goal? Absolutely (well, should I have asked "how?") What is next for STG? Will you all be touring over the summer months? Next is New Zealand, China, Japan, Germany, Scandinavia again, and a massive American tour and another English tour. It's been rumored that it's Carah's voice on Paris Hilton's record....you have said this is False, but you guys don't even have the same pitch so where did that rumor come from? It came from tabloids. Of course it did :) (of course it did what? *me being confused*) Top DVDs you guys take on the road with you? Taladega Nights. Cable Guy. Note to the Readers: There are no pics in this feature because STG did not respond on whether I could use their pics except for the one public one I used for the cover. If you want to try to know more about this band you can check out their website or myspace page. I am posted this as an example of an interview gone flat. If you want my true sentiments on this then check out my opinion page. Yes, I know, I can be mean, but I don't go back on my tenets when it comes to what I'm trying to do with this magazine. So, deal with it.
