I remember a time when the music video was the artistic interpretation of a song...not so much a band, but a song. The images I saw were that which could portray whatever that particular artist wanted to convey musically, using images to paint a picture. Now I see videos in which the focal point is the band. The image of the band dominates over the music at times. I find nothing really artful about seeing four guys in black shirts jumping around. I like a theme at least. What I like about Biology is that they are artists, as musicians and as visual purveyors. If you check out their video on Fuse you will see a concept that pioneered videos in the 80's. There's no band, there's no flashy photography or lights, but there is music and there is art. Amidst this idea, there is a sound which is more mature, darker, moodier to the ears. When Fran Mark vocalizes his words into song it's a man with a purpose...he's taking you into his world. He's political without being political. The music is guitar driven rock reminscent of Jehu, The Cure and perhaps, dare I say, Nirvanaesque. Oh, and these guys sound good live. Their record, "Making Moves" is on Vagrant and not really representative of that label's past exploits, but is leading a new generation of music - a more aged musician, a grittier record, a more grown-up sound which needs to be more apparent in this youth coated market. I'm definitely willing to be a warrior in this mission. Mark may be considered "young" by some, but his ideas and his songs are that of an intelligent musician/artist who's seen the world through realism rather than idealism. "I'll be the virus if you'll be the host." - Programming the Populous Tell me of the birth of Biology and why, when you already
have From Autumn To Ashes did you decide on doing this?
"...and we won't be impressed by pseudo intellect." - Sophisdecay Why the name Biology?
Whats it like playing guitar instead of drums and which did you learn first?
"...we're the type of cats that bring
an axe to a knife fight." - The Measure of My Worth
You are very involved in art as your video expresses, how does this relationship evolve with your music? Don't you think that videos have become boring and uninnovated? What are some videos that stand out for you?
"..we hate when conversation gets the back seat." - Public Art This band has a more mature sound about it, do you think other bands on Vagrant tend to pigeonhole its audience?
Influences?
Whats the summer look like for Biology, will we be able to experience
the magic?
"...youth is a waste and wisdom comes too late" - Employment You've been stated as having a dissatisfaction with the current state of music. Do you care to elaborate on this?
Favorite piece of art and why?
